In 2007 there was a significant amount of publicity around Scouting, as the association reached its centenary, with local, national and international events taking place throughout the year. For the last 3 years the organisation has continued to quietly grow, and locally in Fareham, Gosport and the Meon Valley the average growth has been approximately 15% per annum, reversing a previous downward trend over 10 years. This was helped last year, when Bear Grills, the adventurer and explorer, became Chief Scout, making Scouting “cool” again in the eyes of many young people.

Saturday afternoon at Soccer City was a tense time with Pompey on the big screen trying to win their place into the semi-finals of the FA Cup and every Cub Pack in Fareham East playing through 60 games of six a side football to see who would take the converted Alan Newman Cup? After the round robins we went into the Plate and Main semi finals and finally the four teams came through to win the competition. Plate competition runners up were 10th Fareham and the winners of the Plate competition was 3rd Portchester B team.

Well 2010 has started off in an amazing way to see so many Young People, Leaders and Supporters getting involved in Scouting. We certainly have shown the local community that Scouting is alive and growing in Fareham East.
